How to: Emotive Family Photos | Cleveland Family Photographer and Filmmaker

Lifestyle photography is not about posing for the camera with everyone smiling. It’s about being real and being you. It is about capturing emotions and special moments that show your true relationships with your family. How do we capture these moments?

#1 Don’t look at the camera!

Really, don’t. I will remind you again and again, but I want you to look at each other, smile at each other, snuggle up as a family. I want you to play and laugh and run and dance (if you don’t hate dancing :) ). Every so often, I will ask you to look at the camera because I know families do like an occasional photo of the everyone smiling, but that will just be a couple of photos.

#2 Relax

Try not to worry about the kids misbehaving, try not to stress about every detail. We are aiming to capture a feeling and a connection, not perfection. Perfection is not real.

#3 Have fun!

I truly want you to have a nice time with your family while we are taking photos. Let’s focus on being together and being outdoors.

One quick note for parents who might not be into taking family photos: years from now, your kids are going to want to see photos of you playing together and being together. If you are uncomfortable in front of the camera, know that we will play games and be active and I will try to make it as easy as possible for you.

Let’s capture some sweet memories together!
