Frequently Asked Questions | Cleveland Family Photographer and Filmmaker

Today I am going to be answering a few frequently asked questions for you. As always, if you have any other questions or would like to chat in more detail, please reach out to me here!

What should I bring to the photo/film session?

If you have a baby or small children, I recommend bringing a bag with all of the items your child(ren) typically need(s). Here are some must haves:

Extra diapers – for obvious reasons

Wipes – not just for babies! Kids get messy and sometimes needs their faces cleaned mid-session

Snacks – a hungry child will be a cranky child. I have no problem taking a quick break if your child is hungry! It is typically a great time to get a couple of photos of just parents. And typically, when we are taking photos of just parents, kids need to get in that photo and are ready to go again. Try to bring something quick and clean like a cheese stick, apple slices, cereal, etc.

Water – a good item to have for thirsty kids and adults

A small toy – I like to take photos of all of the different family member combinations and therefore, there will be times when your small child is not in the photos. This would be good to entertainment for them.

I bring blankets! Unless you have one that you really love and want in the photographs/film, I have a collection of blankets to use for sitting on and playing with. I wash the blankets the night before the session and place them in a clean bag. I never reuse a blanket between families without washing it.

How long does a session take?

This depends on many factors such as the type of session, number of family members, age of family members, and the personalities/temperaments of the children.

A film session will take anywhere from 1-2 hours to get enough good footage to turn into a 2-3 minute film. For films, I like to be a fly on the wall and record your natural interactions. When you schedule a film with me, we will create a game plan so we know what activities we will be doing and how we will fill that time. I will direct a bit, but I want this to be about you.

A photo session will take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. If you have one child who is in a great mood, we will likely be able to get everything done in 30 minutes. If you have a large family, there are more types of photos to take, such as individual portraits of each child, parents with individual children, siblings together, etc. If your family is running out of patience for photos, I will try to get it done faster. If your family is loving it, we can take our time a bit more.

As always, every family is different and I try to make the photo session work for your family.

When will I receive my photos/film?

You will receive your photos within 2 weeks of the photo session.

You will receive your family film within 4 weeks of the filming session.

How will I receive my photos/film?

Your photos will come in an online gallery. Depending on the package you have purchased, you will either be able to download the entire gallery (Full Photo Session) or you will have to choose the 15 photos you want to download (Petite Photo Session). You will receive the photos as soon as you click “download.”

Once I have completed your family film, you will receive a private link to view the film on Vimeo. Within a couple of days of the film being completed, you will also receive a high resolution version of the film on a flash drive, delivered to your home.
