The Weather on your Session Day | Cleveland Family Photographer and Filmmaker

I can’t control the weather, but trust me, I wish I could!

I remember the first time I had professional photos taken of myself - long before I was a professional photographer. It was for an engagement session and my then fiancé (now husband of 7 years) and I had found a beautiful park to take them in (shout out to Inman Park in Atlanta!). But on the morning of the photo session, we woke up to rain and clouds and an oh, so overcast sky. I remember feeling very disappointed and our photographer surprised me when she said that the rain was supposed to stop soon and clouds are great for photos. Still unsure, we went to the park, had a lot of fun (I was surprised about this part too), and got some really sweet and loving photos. And do you know what? The day I received the photos, and looking back on them today, I love them and I never think about how I wish it had been sunny. I see myself and my husband, a bit younger, in love, with our ADORABLE puppy. And I feel the emotions of what it was like to be there. And those photos are mine forever.

Some people really want a perfect sunset/sunrise for their sessions or a beautiful sky with no clouds. Well, I am here to tell you that while I cannot control the weather or the cloud cover, beautiful photos can be achieved with clouds or without. Your connection with your family and your love will shine through no matter what the sky looks like. And clouds really can be beautiful too. As for rain, I watch the weather non-stop on my three weather apps. If rain is forecasted for your session time/date, we will plan a backup day and I will be in touch leading up to the session so we can make a decision together.

I know you must be anxiously waiting to see some of these engagement photos from 2013 so for today, I will leave you with this throwback. Photos by Evelyn Perez (@evieperezphotography).
